PacsDrive Announces Low Cost Medical Imaging Storage Service, Seeks to Alter Status Quo in Health Care IT

The PacsDrive service enables small and medium sized health care providers to securely archive medical imaging in compliance with HIPAA regulations for a monthly fee. Setup for the service can be accomplished in minutes without the need for capital expenditure on additional hardware or costly setup fees.

The service is offered in tiered packages, from the smallest package allowing the storage of up to 10,000 studies for $99 per month to the largest package storing up to 250,000 studies for $899 per month. Competing services start at a minimum of $1 per study and require thousands of dollars in setup expenses.

“Offering an affordable DICOM storage solution does not mean we are leaving anything out. Security, reliability, and customer service are top priority,” Millar said.

PacsDrive employs encryption methods used by the military and banks to safe guard information. Additionally, data is replicated across multiple data centers in different geographic locations to ensure data safe keeping.

HIPAA regulations require health care providers to maintain backups of patient data. This is a challenge for many small and medium sized health care providers due to the large expense often associated with PACS and DICOM storage systems. The American College of Radiology estimates that 662 million medical imaging studies where performed in 2007, making the safe archiving of this data a daunting task for even large health care providers.

Because PacsDrive is based on the DICOM medical imaging standard, the service is compatible with virtually every digital imaging modality and PACS in use today. We've updated the PacsDrive Client for Windows. We've updated the client to include support for Windows 7 (Vista and XP still work great), improved logging, and some usability updates. To access the download please log into your account and click the "Download" link at the top of the page.

The PacsDrive Client enables any Windows computer to operate as a DICOM gateway so that we may safely and securely archive your medical images.

DICOM Storage Service to Launch during RSNA

We will be launching our DICOM storage and archiving service during the 2009 RSNA meeting in late November. After nearly a year of development and testing PacsDrive is ramping up for an official product launch. Although we can already count some of you as our customers, we anticipate an acceleration of customer growth following our launch.

Approaching the End of Our Beta Phase

Some of you may not know that PacsDrive has been in a beta stage for the past few months. We greatly appreciate our early customers and the invaluable feedback they have provided during this time.

RSNA is fast approaching, and we anticipate completing our beta for a full product launch during RSNA this year. This is an exciting time for us. We have received a lot of positive feedback about our service, and we have been surprised how well PacsDrive has been received among even large health care providers.

There are lots of great things on the horizon for PacsDrive including an OsiriX plugin that will seamlessly integrate our service making off-site archiving a snap.

Scheduled Maintenance

The PacsDrive website and DICOM archiving service will be unavailable for a brief period tonight for routing and scheduled maintenance. We expect the service outage to last no longer than 10 minutes and will begin at 8pm Eastern.

All images scheduled for archival will be queued and archived once the service resumes. Your local PacsDrive client should continue to operate normally and will still be available to receive images from your PACS or modalities.

This maintenance window is scheduled to enhance security and performance of our datacenters and network.
